CMHA Grey Bruce Launches Exciting New Courses at Recovery College

Owen Sound, ON – The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Grey Bruce is thrilled to announce the expansion of its Recovery College offerings with a variety of new courses starting in July and August. This initiative aims to provide an innovative and supportive learning space where individuals can access free courses, workshops, and events focused on recovery, self-management, and overall well-being.

Recovery College: A Hub for Learning and Connection

CMHA Grey Bruce Recovery College offers both in-person and virtual learning opportunities in a welcoming environment designed to build social connections, grow hope and optimism, strengthen identity, and empower individuals through education. The College is a space where anyone can learn new skills, connect with others in the community, and explore new roles for themselves in a supportive and nurturing environment.

New Courses Starting in July and August

The Recovery College is excited to introduce several new courses aimed at enhancing well-being and fostering personal growth:

• Afternoon Chat (Virtual Only) – A bi-weekly check-in atmosphere with light discussions on various topics, running throughout the semester from July to August.
• Women’s Group (In Person and Virtual Learning) – A safe space for women to learn new skills, improve confidence, and discuss topics of interest. This group will meet once monthly beginning in August.
• Grounding Through Art (In Person and Virtual Learning) – This peer-led course offers various art-based activities for grounding oneself, such as making grounding kits and learning basic art skills. It runs once to twice per month throughout the year. (Note: Virtual participants must have their own supplies.)
• Learning To Love Yourself (In Person and Virtual Learning) – Students will learn about positive self-talk, building self-respect, setting, and achieving goals, and finding self-fulfillment in life. This course consists of 6 classes running weekly from July through August.
• Chair Yoga and Music in The Garden (In Person Only) – Chair yoga sessions to make yoga accessible to everyone, held weekly on Friday afternoons now through August 30. Music sessions will follow on July 26 and August 23 at the Community Garden next to St George’s Baseball Diamond in Owen Sound.
• W.R.A.P. (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) (Virtual Only) – A course focused on creating an action plan for crisis situations, covering the key concepts of Hope, Self-Advocacy, Personal Responsibility, Education, and Support. This course runs weekly for 6-9 sessions during July and August.

Who is the Program For?

Recovery College is open to anyone 16 years of age or older who is interested in learning about recovery, self-management, and overall well-being. There is no cost to participate, and there is no waitlist, although courses are offered during set times throughout the year.
