Talk Today
Dec 13, 2023
Talk Today is a comprehensive mental health program aimed at promoting and spreading awareness of mental health for young athletes. The program includes evidence-based mental health and suicide awareness workshops and fosters partnerships between participating sports organizations and local branches of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA).
Goals & Objectives:
- Encourage open discussion and raise awareness about mental health and suicide within the sports community and the public.
- Promote the mental health of young athletes and spread awareness about the benefits of positive mental health throughout the Grey Bruce community.
Is This Program for Me?
- You are the coach, teacher or administrator for high school students, post-secondary students and/or minor sports teams (also appropriate for summer camps, etc.).
What We Offer:
- Sports Teams:
- SafeTALK and/or Team Up training for players, coaches, team staff and billets/parents. SafeTALK and Team Up training is a suicide alertness program that teaches individuals to recognize persons with thoughts of suicide and how to take action.
- Mental Health Coach/Champion: Each team receives a designated CMHA Mental Health Coach/Champion to provide resources and support for the players as well as the people that surround them.
- Talk Today Awareness Events: Each team hosts a Talk Today community event at one home game to show its support for mental health and raise awareness about CMHA mental health programs in the community.
- In The High School Classroom: Talk Today offers a minimum of one, but ideally a three-visit series of awareness presentations – mental health awareness, helping a friend, resource awareness.
