Peer Support Worker – Brightshores Health System

Peer support workers have lived experience with mental illness and or addictions and intentionally share parts of their lived experience and recovery journey in their role as a supporter. This fosters a connection and a sense of hope while promoting coping strategies and self-help. Peer support workers provide one-to-one and group peer support to help with system navigation, encouragement of self-advocacy, general listening, support, and skill development.
Goals & Objectives:
Provides information, education, and consultation to foster self-help, and provide peer support to those who have presented in the Emergency Room with a mental health emergency or who are hospitalized in the inpatient Psychiatry Department.
Is This Program for Me?
- You are 16 years of age or older.
- You have presented in the Emergency Room with a mental health emergency or who are hospitalized in the inpatient Psychiatry Department at Brightshores Health System, Owen Sound location.
- You are seeking support from peers with lived experience in mental health and/or addictions.
What We Offer:
- One-to-one support and consultation
- Assistance with accessing services and navigating the mental health system
- Psycho-educational support groups and workshops
How Do I Get Connected?
Services are offered directly at Brightshores Health System – Owen Sound site Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Request to speak with the Peer Support Worker.
