Owen Sound Attack’s ‘Talk Today’ Game Raises Over $4900 for Mental Health

Owen Sound, ON – On February 8th, 2025, the Owen Sound Attack faced off against the North Bay Battalion at the Bayshore Community Centre for the annual Talk Today game, an initiative aimed at promoting mental health awareness. The game, presented by Syngenta and Grain Farmers of Ontario in partnership with CMHA Grey Bruce, was a big success both on and off the ice.

The Attack delivered an impressive performance, with a 4-1 victory over the Battalion. But beyond the scoreboard, the evening was a win for mental health, with $4942 raised in support of CMHA Grey Bruce’s community funded – Youth Mental Health Awareness Programs.

Fans participated in a variety of fundraising activities, including a bucket pass, with support from volunteers, including players from the Arran-Elderslie U15 Rep and U18 LL Ice Dogs hockey teams, who helped keep the buckets moving.

Attendees also had the chance to purchase tickets using a special discount code that contributed funds to CMHA Grey Bruce. A highlight of the night was the Chuck-A-Puck event, where attendees took aim at centre ice with CMHA Grey Bruce’s own Don Vail as the target.

“I never thought I’d find myself standing at centre ice with pucks flying at me for a great cause, but here we are!” said Don Vail, Communications and Funding Manager at CMHA Grey Bruce. “It was all in good fun, and the generosity and enthusiasm from the fans made this event special.”

The night was also filled with meaningful moments. CMHA Grey Bruce’s Awareness Coordinator, Jackie Ralph had the honour of singing the national anthem, while CEO Stephen Musehl took part in the ceremonial puck drop, reinforcing the strong partnership between CMHA Grey Bruce and the Owen Sound Attack.

“The Talk Today game is an incredible opportunity to spread mental health awareness and engage with the community,” said Musehl. “We are grateful to the Owen Sound Attack organization, their players, and their fans for their support. Every dollar raised helps us continue vital programming in Grey Bruce.”
