McFadden’s Movement Donates Record $36,500 to Support Mental Health, Including $18,250 for CMHA Grey Bruce
Sep 22, 2025
OWEN SOUND, ON – September 22, 2025 – CMHA Grey Bruce is honoured to be a recipient of McFadden’s Movement’s latest record-breaking donation of $36,500, with half of the funds, $18,250 directed to mental health resources and programming in Grey Bruce.
McFadden’s Movement was founded in 2016 by Garrett McFadden, a Kincardine native and former captain of the Guelph Storm in the Ontario Hockey League. Motivated by his own experiences and a desire to create change, Garrett launched the Movement to raise awareness of mental health, reduce stigma, and support local services. Since its inception, McFadden’s Movement has donated nearly $200,000 to mental health initiatives across Ontario.
This year marks the first time CMHA Grey Bruce has been included as a recipient, alongside CMHA Waterloo Wellington. The decision reflects Garrett’s Grey Bruce roots, his upbringing in Kincardine, and his commitment to ensuring that mental health resources are available in the communities that shaped him.
The donation will help CMHA Grey Bruce continue its work providing essential mental health and addiction services, with a focus on youth programs and community-based supports.
“It means a lot to see Garrett continue to give back to the community where he grew up,” said Don Vail, Communications and Funding Manager for CMHA Grey Bruce. “Through McFadden’s Movement, he has turned his personal journey into a powerful message that encourages conversations about mental health and supports services right here in Grey Bruce. We are truly grateful for his commitment.”
The cheque presentation took place at The Grove, CMHA Waterloo Wellington’s new Children and Youth Services building in Guelph. While McFadden’s Movement has been a long-time supporter of The Grove, this year’s donation also extends support to CMHA Grey Bruce, recognizing the importance of strong mental health services in smaller, rural communities.
As McFadden’s Movement celebrates its 10th anniversary, its record-setting donation underscores the lasting impact one person’s leadership and community spirit can have. For CMHA Grey Bruce, the funds represent not only financial support but also a powerful reminder that communities like Kincardine and across Grey Bruce are standing together for mental health.
