CMHA Grey Bruce Thanks Georgian College Students for Their Incredible Community Support

Owen Sound, ON – The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Grey Bruce is excited to highlight and thank Jocelyn Walpole and Merissa Fiske, two dedicated students from the Practical Nursing program at Georgian College, Owen Sound.

Through a course project in ‘Nursing in the Community’, Jocelyn and Merissa have made a significant impact by rallying local businesses and organizations to support our community. The duo approached Zehrs Markets Owen Sound, the 10th Street West location of Shoppers Drug Mart Owen Sound, Grey Bruce Public Health, and Georgian College, seeking donations to support various community needs.

Their efforts resulted in hundreds of dollars worth of donations, which they distributed to several local organizations. OSHARE received a generous supply of food, the local Women’s Shelter benefited from donations of feminine hygiene and skincare products, and CMHA Grey Bruce received 30 Wellness Kits.

Jocelyn Walpole explained, “These kits are filled with essential items that can make a real difference in someone’s day. They provide not only immediate necessities but also tools to help maintain health and well-being in the community.”

The Wellness Kits include essential items such as toiletries, water, granola bars, an information package, a backpack, a Naloxone kit, and other useful items designed to help individuals maintain their health and well-being.

Merissa Fiske shared her thoughts, stating, “It opened our eyes to the significant need for community support. The project also showed us the challenges that people in our area face, and it was an eye-opening experience for us.”

Don Vail, Communications and Funding Manager at CMHA Grey Bruce, expressed his appreciation for the students’ efforts, “I am super impressed by Jocelyn and Merissa’s initiative. It’s encouraging to see the next generation taking an active role in improving our community.”

CMHA Grey Bruce extends its gratitude to Jocelyn Walpole and Merissa Fiske for their hard work and commitment. Their efforts have made a tangible difference in the lives of many, and their example sets a high standard for community involvement and support.
