CMHA Grey Bruce’s Ride Don’t Hide Raises Over $30,000 for Mental Health Programs

Owen Sound, ON – September 20, 2023 – CMHA Grey Bruce is thrilled to announce the outstanding success of its fundraising bike ride event, Ride Don’t Hide, held on September 17th at the Owen Sound Kiwanis Soccer Complex. This year’s event saw an incredible turnout, with 79 dedicated participants rallying together to make a difference in the mental health community.

Thanks to the unwavering support of our riders, walkers, community supporters, and sponsors, Ride Don’t Hide surpassed all expectations by raising over $30,000. This remarkable achievement reflects the profound commitment of our community to mental health awareness and support.

Leading the charge in fundraising efforts was Team ‘Computer Jen’s Mental Health Warriors,’ who secured the top spot by raising an impressive $8,430. Following closely behind was Team ‘Board But Not Bored,’ raising an admirable $6,353.

We also want to recognize individual fundraisers, with ‘Computer Jen’ emerging as the top individual fundraiser with $7,888, followed by ‘Lynda Legge’ at $3,085, and ‘Megan Bishop’ at $3,000.

Sarah Durrer, the event coordinator, expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “Ride Don’t Hide has proven once again that our community is dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and supporting those who need it. It’s heartwarming to witness the collective effort that made this event such a success.”

Clark MacFarlane, CEO of CMHA Grey Bruce, emphasized the importance of events like Ride Don’t Hide in supporting the vital work of the Canadian Mental Health Association Grey Bruce. He stated, “This event not only raises crucial funds but also raises awareness about mental health in our community. It allows us to continue providing essential programs and services that touch the lives of so many.”

The funds raised through Ride Don’t Hide will bolster various community programs that do not receive government funding. These programs include the Brunch program, which operates at four drop-in centers and serves up to 60 people daily, as well as community gardens that flourish at each site. Additionally, proceeds will support Youth Education and Awareness programs, the ID Clinic, and the Men’s Program.

Looking ahead, CMHA Grey Bruce’s 11th annual Ride Don’t Hide will be held in June 2024.
